1. Animals want to live. Not only do they want to live, but they love life and they fear death. This should be apparent to anyone who has spent time with their pets and it's a truth for all animals, not just pets. Just like dogs and cats, farmed animals have unique and distinct personalities and emotions. They develop emotional bonds with other animals and with their human caretakers.
2. We don't need to consume animal products. In fact, science has proven again and again that a plant based diet is healthy for the human body throughout all stages of life. Eating animals is not only unnecessary, but contributes to the leading causes of death - including heart disease and cancer. Find out more here.
3. Animal agriculture is damaging to the environment. Animals require a ton of resources. Food, hay, and and lots and lots of water. All of that goes in and animal waste comes out. That animal waste has to go somewhere - on factory farms they build large animal waste lakes that spill into waterways - killing fish populations and creating ocean dead zones. It's far more efficient to eat the plants directly and uses far fewer resources. More info here.
4. The treatment of animals in the animal agriculture industry is unjust. Animals are innocent - much like children. They have done nothing wrong and yet they are sentenced to a short life of misery and death. On factory farms they are locked up where they will never see grass or daylight until they are moved onto the transport trucks that take them to slaughter. Pigs will have their tails cut off, ears clipped, and testicles removed without anesthesia. Chickens and turkeys will have their beaks painfully cut short in an attempt to keep them from pecking each other - a result of intense confinement. Anyone with even the smallest sense of justice can see that treating animals this way is inherently wrong.
